The Department of Mechanical Engineering was first established in 1970 within the Eskişehir State Academy of Engineering and Architecture, commencing its education, teaching, and research activities. Since 1993, it has become a part of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (FEA) at Eskişehir Osmangazi University (ESOGÜ).
ESOGÜ FEA's Department of Mechanical Engineering is committed to providing a high-quality educational experience with its rich and competent academic staff. The department aims to enable students to unlock their potential to become future leaders in their chosen professions and areas of expertise. Our graduates, equipped with bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees, engage in qualified activities in engineering and science, create and develop innovations, and contribute to national and international industries and communities through professional engineering practices.
Our programs are designed to provide students with education reflecting the latest technologies in various specialization areas, particularly “applied mechanics, design and manufacturing, system dynamics and control, and thermal systems.” By integrating theoretical and practical knowledge, students develop their creative thinking skills and gain a deep understanding of fundamental engineering principles, enabling them to become highly sought-after engineers by leading firms with research centers and achieve successful careers.
Prominent learning outcomes of the undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering include:
- Identifying, formulating, and solving complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
- Designing complex systems, devices, or products relevant to Mechanical Engineering under realistic constraints and conditions by applying modern design and analysis methods.
- Designing experiments for the investigation of Mechanical Engineering problems, collecting data, and analyzing and interpreting results.
- Producing solutions that meet predefined needs while considering public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
- Acting with awareness of ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering, making informed decisions by considering the global, economic, environmental, and societal impacts of possible engineering solutions.
- Developing a mindset that promotes the profession of Mechanical Engineering, emphasizing lifelong learning, and fostering an inclination towards postgraduate education and research.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering includes five main divisions (Energy, Design and Manufacturing, Theory of Machines and Dynamics, Mechanics, and Thermodynamics) and various supporting laboratories (CAD, Hydraulics, Heat Technology, Material Science, Machine Tools, Internal Combustion Engines, etc.).
Since the 2008-2009 academic year, the department has implemented a minimum of 30% (72/240 ECTS) English instruction in its curriculum.
